Sunda Inseln: Best of Sumbawa Tour
Go on a discovery tour: During this individually organised private trip, you will get to know the island of Sumbawa, which is as remote as it is diverse. You are attracted to such a trip because you are interested in Indonesia's scenically and culturally rich island archipelago and you like unspoilt places where the traditional life of the locals is still visible and tangible. In this respect, you tend to favour undeveloped tourist regions and the Small Sunda Island of Sumbawa encompasses all of this for you. Come and explore the Lesser Sunda Island of Sumbawa!
Your fitness level: Although you will spend a significant amount of time traveling by private car, you should still have a reasonable level of fitness for this tour, as you will cover some distances on foot and navigate through rough terrain. Additionally, don’t underestimate the challenge of activities in temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius, which can make everything feel a bit more strenuous. But no worries – our private tour is entirely tailored to your needs. You set the pace.

- Since your flight arrives in the afternoon, you will be taken directly to your Bima accommodation for the night.

Day 2: Bima and Its Cultural Heritage

Come in and watch how they create their original handmade woven products before your very eyes.
- After this interesting experience, it's time for the real highlight of the day. You will now visit the Cultural Heritage Centre. Here you have the opportunity to gain an insight into the culture of the Mbojo tribe, which is expressed not least in the clothing of its tribal members, but also in its characteristic wooden houses. Here you will get an impression of the former Bima culture, which has been preserved in this place and takes visitors back to centuries past. Old traditions and ways of life have remained alive here. This location is therefore a place that really should not be missed. And with a bit of luck, you will have the opportunity to admire the villagers in their traditional dress. You'll have plenty of time to explore the place and find the perfect spots for your souvenir photos.

Day 3: Bima Region Island Hopping - Saleh Bay
- Your day begins with a delicious breakfast (included) at your hotel before your guide accompanies you on another day full of impressions. While yesterday's tour focussed more on the local culture, today's excursion is all about natural wonders. Don't forget your snorkelling gear!
- The first stage of your journey takes around 30 to 40 minutes. It takes you from Kalimaya to the famous Pink Beach. You will first travel by car and then by boat to the north-eastern end of Sumbawa. Of course, you'll have both for yourself. The Pink Beach is surrounded by hills and the light red grains of sand are very fine. The gradation between the pink sand, the clear blue sea water and the green hills creates a very exotic panorama. And the underwater panorama is no less interesting. If you would like to explore the underwater world, you can go snorkelling here at Pink Beach. You have plenty of time before heading to the next stop on today's tour. Continuing towards East Sumbawa, you will reach Coconut Island. The route to the island leads through the Sape Straits, which can have choppy waves depending on the weather. On arrival at Coconut Island, however, you will be rewarded with an idyllic landscape and panoramic views of the island world around you.
- Go underwater exploring with your snorkelling equipment or use the time to relax and read or simply enjoy the scenery around you.
- Your lunch (included) will be served here on Coconut Island in the form of a small barbecue on the beach. Please let us know in advance if you don't like fish. In this case we would arrange a lunch box for you, which we would bring from the mainland.
- Today's last stop will take you to Tanjung Meriam. This enchanting gem, also known as ‘Cannon Bay’, is tucked away in a charming hidden little fishing village in the east of Sumbawa. This stunning natural wonder is just a short boat ride away from Sape and is one of the special highlights on the island of Sumbawa.
- Be mesmerised as you enter the 3.62-hectare breathtaking landscape decorated with massive hexagonal basalt columns (columnar joints) that stretch out before you for as far as your eye can see. These majestic formations, created by the forces of nature, form a symphony of geometric perfection against the backdrop of the ocean. The rocks around this beach are formed from volcanic magma that has cooled and hardened with or without the crystallisation process below and above the surface.
- We are sure that a sense of wonder and inner peace will accompany you as you walk through this natural wonder.
- We are sure that a feeling of wonder and inner peace will accompany you as you walk through this natural wonder. The interplay of light and shadow exerts a magical attraction and adds to the allure of this place. Take a moment to pause in the silence and let the beauty of Tanjung Meriam work its magic on you. For nature lovers and photographers, Tanjung Meriam offers countless opportunities to take the perfect photo. Its unique formations together with the coastal landscape create a truly remarkable backdrop.
- Now it's time to return to the ‘mainland’ of Sumbawa and prepare for your next adventure.
- You will now cross Sumbawa from east to south and check into the hotel of your next destination.
- You will have dinner at your hotel (not included)...
- ...and stay there for a comparatively short night.
Day 4: Whale Shark Day
- Today is the day on which you will encounter the giants of the sea. Today you will visit the whale sharks :-)
- That's why it's time to get up VERY early today.
- Your guide will pick you up from the hotel at 3:15 am and drive you the short distance to the harbour.
- Your journey begins at around 4.00 am. You will board a small motorised boat that will take you to the place where these giant sea creatures usually hang out at this time of day.
- You reach your maritime destination shortly before sunrise at around 6 a.m. and have the whale sharks' playground right in front of you. With a bit of luck, you may even have the opportunity to say hello to a small group. Seeing a whale shark is already very impressive, but having a group of whale sharks in front of you is simply breathtaking. Take your time. Perhaps watch the calm movements of these gentle giants from the boat for a while. Once you have familiarised yourself with their behaviour, you can jump into the pleasantly temperate water, become part of the playful scene and swim with the whale sharks. - A truly unforgettable and unique experience.
Please note: Whale sharks are wild animals, even though they are used to humans in this area. Although their movements are very calm and they may appear curious, they cannot be compared to our pets. If you behave just as calmly and ‘unagitated’ and keep a respectful distance when swimming and snorkelling, you can help to make this encounter a truly unique experience for you. Enjoy it!
- When you've had enough of this unique encounter, it's time to get out of the water and enjoy a light but delicious breakfast. On board you will be served a selection of fresh fruit, bread, tea, coffee and hot chocolate.
- Around 9:00 am it's time to leave and you'll drive back to the harbour, which you'll reach after a 2-hour drive.
- Back at the hotel, it's time to pack and check out, because your ‘Best of Sumbawa Tour’ has a lot more to offer :-)
- Lunch (not included) will be served en route, for which you will stop at a local restaurant along the way.
- Afterwards you will continue your journey, as you still have some distance to cover. But don't worry, you won't get bored. The journey takes you through a varied landscape of fields, mountains, jungle and villages.
- In the afternoon you will reach Sumbawa Besar, the capital of the regency of West Sumbawa.
- The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure, which you can enjoy by the pool or on the terrace of your Seaside Resort, your accommodation for the next 4 nights.
- Dinner at the resort hotel (not included).
- Overnight stay in your beautiful bungalow at Semawa Seaside Cottages.
Day 5: Waterfall – Ancient Sarcophagi – Sultan's Palace
- After a good breakfast in the morning, your guide will take you on another discovery tour of the fascinating island of Sumbawa.
- Your first stop today on the way to Batu Tering will be the beautiful Waterfall, which will take you about 1 hour by car and another 10-15 minutes on foot until you finally arrive there. This enchanting Waterfall is nestled in a lush green landscape where countless dragonflies display their playful dance over the flowing water. Enjoy the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of this remote place.
- Your next stop will be an even more remote location. You will now head to a rather hidden spot near the village of Batu Tering, a place with ancient sarcophagi and the magical stone Aik Renung, which are relics of the megalithic culture that existed here long ago. There is also a cave not far from this place. You have plenty of time to enjoy the truly unique atmosphere of this very special place.
The sarcophagi are stone tombs in the form of a mortar with a covered top. The Aik Renung sarcophagi represent a megalithic culture that has its own peculiarity compared to other megalithic cultures in Indonesia and the world. It is characterised by a highly developed prehistoric culture. This site, which is located at an altitude of 475 metres above sea level and covers an area of about 4 hectares, was discovered by farmers in 1963. Researchers believe this site to be an ancient settlement and burial site and estimate the age of the Aik Renung sarcophagi (coffins) to be around 2000 years BC, older than Borobudur. The sarcophagi here show different shapes and sizes as well as intricate carvings on the outside.
- Lunch (not included) will be served at a local restaurant en route.
- Afterwards, it's time to return, but it's not the end of today's programme.
- Your next stop will be the Sultan's palace and Sumbawa's oldest wooden building. Take a look inside and gain an insight into the royal life of days gone by.
- On the way you will also pass a blacksmith's shop and get some interesting insights into the old tradition of knife and sword making. Come and look over the shoulders of the craftsmen and get a first-hand impression of this long tradition.
- Now an eventful day comes to an end and it's time to return to your accommodation, the ‘Semawa Seaside Cottages’.
- Here you will also have your dinner (not included).
Day 6: Satonda Island
- This morning you will wake up again in your cosy and park-like resort and start your day with an early breakfast before your guide picks you up at 7:00 am for another interesting programme.
- The speedboat will take you on a two-hour trip through the fascinating island world of Sumbawa. As you glide through this picturesque scenery, you will come across small fishing boats again and again, whose silhouettes enrich the maritime panorama and make for varied moments.
- At the end of this entertaining sea voyage, you will reach the secluded island of Satonda. From here, Sumbawa lies to the south and to the north you look out over the sea region where the Bali Sea and the Flores Sea merge.
- The island of Satonda impresses with its unique, picturesque natural scenery. What was once an active volcano is now an uninhabited oasis whose forested slopes surround an idyllic crater lake and extend outwards into a colourful coral reef. Let yourself be enchanted by this idyll!
- Your island experience begins with an easy, uphill hike of around 20 minutes to take the ultimate panoramic view souvenir photo. The path may seem a little rough, but you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views. And if the weather permits, you might even have the chance to see the Tambora volcano not too far away.
- But that's not all. As soon as you have descended again, you can refresh yourself in the crater lake and experience what it is like to float on the water without actually having to swim. The high salt content of the water makes this possible.
- And before you leave the island, don't forget to leave a wish on the wishing tree by hanging a stone in its branches.
- Now it's time to explore the beautiful underwater world. Get ready and snorkel along the coral reef that surrounds Satonda Island. The colourful underwater world with numerous fish and beautiful, colourful corals will delight you. With a bit of luck, you might even have the opportunity to watch passing eagle rays. And while the fascinating life takes place underwater, you can enjoy the impressive view of the Tambora volcano above the surface!
- Take one last look and a photo, because now it's time to return to Sumbawa.
- Your late lunch (not included) will be served in the restaurant of your charming Seaside Cottage, from whose terrace you have a marvellous view of the waters you have just crossed.
- After the eventful programme in the morning, you have earned a longer break. Use the time to relax or go for a swim in the infinity pool before setting off on another impressive experience in the late afternoon.
- You will be picked up by your tour guide at around 17:00 and take a short drive together to a nearby beach, which offers a unique sunset experience with its enchanting scenery. Find a nice spot, make yourselves comfortable and enjoy this natural spectacle :-)
- You will return to your cosy beach front resort ‘Semawa Seaside Cottages’ just in time for dinner, where you can relax and enjoy the evening.

A dirt road leads you through the middle of the jungle to your next destination - the beautiful Mata Jitu waterfall. Be prepared for the journey to be a little bumpy in some sections.
- Once you arrive at the ‘car park’ in the jungle, a five-minute walk will take you to a picturesque cascade of water.
- Take the opportunity to swim in the naturally formed pools with crystal-clear, turquoise-coloured water. Refresh yourself directly under the unique waterfall and enjoy the lush green of the rainforest that surrounds you.
- Lunch (not included) is served back in the village at a local restaurant.
- Now it's time to leave Moyo Island. But before heading back to your Seaside Resort, you will have the opportunity to discover the fascinating underwater world at two more snorkelling spots. Your guide will take you to secluded white sandy beaches lined with dense jungle. Dive into the crystal-clear water and marvel at the colourful corals. One of the snorkelling spots turns into a small island at low tide - a very special experience. Take your time and explore this unique environment :-)
- After this fascinating underwater adventure, return to the main island of Sumbawa and your cosy ‘Semawa Seaside Cottages’ resort.
- Dinner (not included) is served in the hotel restaurant.
Day 8: Between sea nomads and mountain dwellers
- After a good, fortifying breakfast (included), it's time to pack your bags again, as you have to check out of your beautiful Seaside Resort.
- Your tour guide will accompany you to your next destination. Even if it doesn't look like it yet, you shouldn't stow your jacket too deep in your luggage.
- Today's journey takes you further to the west of Sumbawa. The first stop is a sea nomad village.
- Here you can get to know the simple life of the ‘Orang Laut’ - the sea dwellers of Sumbawa. Their lifestyle is still determined by the rhythm of the sea. Take your time to look around and get an impression of this extraordinary and very different culture.
- Lunch (not included) is served in a local restaurant en route.
- The next stop on your journey is the so-called ‘village above the clouds’, which you will reach in the afternoon. This is one of Sumbawa's traditional villages, located at around 900 metres above sea level. Here at the latest you will realise that the jacket is useful :-)
- Another exciting encounter with local life awaits you here, as you will spend the night with a local family in their home. This gives you the opportunity to experience the culture up close and interact directly. Your tour guide will also assist you as a translator.
- A walk through the village is also worthwhile to discover the everyday life of the villagers. Perhaps you will be lucky enough to attend a football match of the ‘Grasshoppers’. Don't feel shy - the team is open to foreign talent. We can confirm that :-)
- Dinner (included) is served in the host family's home. You can expect a traditional meal with different vegetables, meat variations, rice and potatoes as well as tea, coffee and water. - While your hosts prepare your bed, you can try out the typical local ‘open-air bathroom’. Don't forget your flip-flops!
- Overnight stay in the host family's house in the mountain village.
Day 9: From the mountains to the islands in the north west
- Today is another one of those mornings when you have to get up before your actual wake-up time.
- At 5.00 am, your tour guide will take you to a viewpoint near the village, from where you can experience a unique natural spectacle - a sunrise in a play of light and clouds. Against a Against a picturesque backdrop of sea, islands and jungle, you can watch as the clouds float between the mountains and the sun finally rises, creating a breathtaking scene. Depending on the weather, your view extends over the rugged landscape of Sumbawa in the east, the small harbour of Pototano and the offshore islands in the north and the Alas Strait between Sumbawa and Lombok in the west. If the clouds allow it, you can even admire the Gunung Rinjani volcano on Lombok. Don't forget to bring your jacket - it's fresh up here!
- While you watch the fascinating colours of the sunrise, you will be treated to hot chocolate, coffee and tea as well as small snacks to keep you going until breakfast :-)
- Around 8:00 am you will then head back. Back at your host family's home, a delicious local breakfast awaits you and another opportunity to chat to your friendly hosts.
- Then it's on to the next adventure.
- Your next stop will take you to three small islands in the north-west of Sumbawa. Here you have another opportunity to explore the beautiful underwater world while snorkelling and enjoy the magnificent view.
- Lunch (not included) will be served on one of the islands during your excursion.
- Otherwise, you can simply relax and enjoy the scenery.
- You will set off again from here in the early afternoon.
- After around 1.5 hours by boat and car, you will reach your Seaside Resort ‘Whales & Waves’.
- The rest of the afternoon is at your disposal - whether at the pool or on the beach. The main thing is that you enjoy it :-)
- Dinner (not included) is served at the resort.
Day 10: Gunung Sangenge - Ancient mountain village & waterfall
- Start this morning with a hearty breakfast - you'll be thankful for it later.
- At 7.30 am you will be picked up by your tour guide to explore another exciting place on the island of Sumbawa. Today's journey will take you within two hours to a remote mountain village, in which traditional life is still very much in the foreground.
- You are moving in a very rural area surrounded by rice fields, rivers and hills at an altitude of around 560 metres in the valley of Gunung Olet Sangenge. The villagers here traditionally live from growing coffee and harvesting honey in the forest. Due to its remote location, this region is still largely unknown. There are several waterfalls on the Tiu Batu River, of which you will visit the most impressive one. It is 250 metres high. The combination of height and shape makes this waterfall so special. Surrounded by towering trees and large rocks, the water cascades down ten steps into the Tiu Batu River. Please note: The Tiu Batu River can be impassable during the rainy season due to strong currents. The masses of water from the mountains can cause the river to swell considerably.
- To reach the waterfall, you have to cross the river and hike uphill through the jungle for about 1.5 to 2 hours. Yes, it will be hot and quite strenuous, but the views of unspoilt forests and clear rivers will reward you for the effort along the way. A real paradise in the Samawa region!
For the particularly adventurous, there is the option of spending the whole day in this area. If you would like to do this, please let your guide know the day before so that he can organise everything. Please note that you will then have to start earlier. In this case, you can also visit Fort Talbir, an old fortress that probably dates back to the time of the Majapahit Empire. The circumference of the fortress walls is around 200 metres, with a height of four metres. It is said that this fort was once a village whose inhabitants suddenly disappeared. The journey takes about 1 hour by motorbike, followed by a 15-minute walk. Be aware: it will be a long and tiring day, but the experience is worth it.
OR ALSO:
For those who really want to experience village life up close, there is the option of staying overnight on site and getting to know the everyday life of the locals: early morning prayer at sunrise, sharing coffee around the campfire, working in the fields, fishing, collecting wood for cooking - there is no more authentic insight into the traditional life of the Marente people.
- Lunch (not included) is served in the form of a lunchbox with traditional local food right by the waterfall. The lunch box can either be prepared by the hotel or bought on the way - depending on your preference.
- After this unique experience, you will return to the ‘Whales & Waves’ resort, where a relaxing evening awaits you.
- Dinner (not included) will be served at the resort.
Day 11: Return journey / follow-up programme
- Enjoy a relaxed breakfast this morning and take a last look at the beautiful sea scenery that surrounds you.
- Now it's time to pack your bags and say goodbye.
- Your guide will pick you up at the resort hotel and take you to the harbour and then to the airport on Lombok, from where your flight will take you home or to your next destination.
Thank you for travelling with EAST OF WALLACE TOURS. We hope you had a wonderful time and wish you a safe onward journey.

- Lunch (not included) will be served back in the village at a local restaurant.
- Now it's time to leave Moyo Island. But before heading back to your Seaside Resort, you will have the opportunity to discover the fascinating underwater world at two more snorkeling spots. Your guide will take you to secluded white sandy beaches lined with dense jungle. Dive into the crystal-clear water and marvel at the colorful corals. One of the snorkeling spots turns into a small island at low tide - a very special experience. Take your time and explore this unique environment :-)
- After this fascinating underwater adventure, return to the main island of Sumbawa and your cozy 'Semawa Seaside Cottage' resort.
- Dinner (not included) will be served in the hotel restaurant.
Day 6: Satonda Island
- This morning you will wake up again in your cozy and park-like resort and start your day with an early breakfast before your guide picks you up at 7:00 am for another interesting program. Don't forget your snorkeling gear!
- With the speedboat, you'll set off on a roughly two-hour trip through the fascinating island world of Sumbawa. As you glide through this picturesque scenery, you will repeatedly encounter small fishing boats whose silhouettes enrich the maritime panorama and provide varied moments.
- At the end of this entertaining sea voyage, you will reach the secluded island of Satonda. From here, Sumbawa lies in a southerly direction, and to the north, you look out over the sea region where the Bali Sea and the Flores Sea merge into each other.
- The island of Satonda impresses with its unique, picturesque natural scenery. What was once an active volcano is now an uninhabited oasis whose forested slopes surround an idyllic crater lake and extend outwards into a colorful coral reef. Let yourself be enchanted by this idyll!
- Your island experience begins with an easy, uphill hike of about 20 minutes to take the ultimate panoramic view souvenir photo.
The colorful underwater world with numerous fish and beautiful, colorful corals will delight you. With a bit of luck, you might even have the opportunity to watch passing eagle rays. And while the fascinating life takes place underwater, you can enjoy the impressive view of the Tambora volcano above the surface!
- Take one last look and a photo, because now it's time to return to Sumbawa.
- Your late lunch (not included) will be served in the restaurant of your charming Seaside Cottage, from whose terrace you have a marvelous view of the waters you have just crossed.
- After the eventful program in the morning, you have earned a longer break.
- You will return to your cozy beach front resort 'Semawa Seaside Cottage' just in time for dinner, where you can relax and enjoy the evening.
- Dinner (not included) will be served here.
Day 7: Waterfall - Ancient Sarcophagi - Sultan's Palace
- After a good breakfast in the morning, your guide will take you on another discovery tour of the fascinating island of Sumbawa.
- But first, it's time to check out and your suitcases will go on tour with you.
- Your first stop today will be the Sultan's palace and Sumbawa's oldest wooden building. Take a look inside and gain an insight into the royal life of days gone by.
- After that, you'll continue to a beautiful Waterfall, which will take you about 1 hour by car and another 10-15 minutes on foot until you finally arrive there. The enchanting Waterfall is nestled in a lush green landscape where countless dragonflies display their playful dance over the flowing water.
- The sarcophagi are stone tombs in the form of a mortar with a covered top. The Aik Renung sarcophagi represent a megalithic culture that has its own peculiarity compared to other megalithic cultures in Indonesia and the world. It is characterized by a fairly highly developed prehistoric culture. This site, which is located at an altitude of 475 m above sea level and covers an area of about 4 hectares, was discovered by farmers in 1963.
- After that, it's time to move on.
- On the way, if time permits, you will also pass a blacksmith's shop and get some interesting insights into the old tradition of knife and sword making. Come and look over the shoulders of the craftsmen and get a first-hand impression of this long tradition.
- Then you will continue your journey, as you still have quite a distance to cover. But don't worry, you won't get bored. The journey takes you through a varied landscape of fields, mountains, jungle and villages.
- In the afternoon, you will reach a small place near the harbor of South Sumbawa, which will be your starting point for your whale shark tour the next morning.
- Here you will check in to a local homestay, where you can spend the rest of the afternoon.
- Dinner at the homestay (not included).
- Overnight stay at the same place.
Day 8: Whale Shark Day
- Today is the day when you will encounter the giants of the sea. Today you will visit the whale sharks :-)
- That's why it's time to get up VERY early today.
- Your guide will pick you up from the hotel at 3:15 am and drive you to the harbor.
- Your journey begins at around 4:00 am. You will board a small motorized boat that will take you to the place where these giant sea creatures usually hang out at this time of day.
You will reach your maritime destination shortly before sunrise at around 6 am and have the whale sharks' playground right in front of you. With a bit of luck, you may even have the opportunity to say hello to a small group. Seeing a whale shark is already very impressive, but having a group of whale sharks in front of you is simply breathtaking. Take your time. Perhaps watch the calm movements of these gentle giants from the boat for a while. Once you have familiarized yourself with their behavior, you can jump into the pleasantly temperate water, become part of the playful scene and swim with the whale sharks - a truly unforgettable and unique experience.
Please note: Whale sharks are - although accustomed to humans in this area - wild animals. Although their movements are very calm and they may appear curious, they cannot be compared to our pets. If you behave just as calmly and 'unagitated' and keep a respectful distance when swimming and snorkeling, you can help to make this encounter a truly unique experience for you. Enjoy it!
- When you've had enough of this unique encounter, it's time to get out of the water and enjoy a light but delicious breakfast. On board you will be served a selection of fresh fruit, bread, tea, coffee and hot chocolate.
- Around 9:00 am it's time to leave and you'll drive back to the harbor, which you'll reach after a journey of about 2 hours.
- Back at the homestay, it's time to pack and check out, because your 'Best of Sumbawa Tour' has a lot more to offer :-)
- Lunch (not included) will be served en route, for which you will stop at a local restaurant along the way.
- Afterwards, you will continue your journey, as you still have quite a distance to cover. But don't worry, you won't get bored. The journey takes you through a varied landscape of fields, mountains, jungle and villages.
- In the afternoon, you will reach Bima, the capital of East Sumbawa.
- The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure, which you can spend relaxing.
- Dinner at your accommodation or nearby (not included).
- Overnight stay at your Bima accommodation.
Day 9: Bima Region Island Hopping
- Your day begins with a delicious breakfast (included) at your accommodation before your guide accompanies you on another day full of impressions. While yesterday's tour focused more on the local culture, today's excursion is all about natural wonders. Don't forget your snorkeling gear!
- First, you'll head to the first stage of your journey, which takes about 30 to 40 minutes. It takes you from Kalimaya to the famous Pink Beach. You will first travel by car and then by boat to the northeastern end of Sumbawa. Of course, you'll have both all to yourselves. The Pink Beach is surrounded by hills and the light red grains of sand are very fine. The gradation between the pink sand, the clear blue sea water and the green hills creates a very exotic panorama. And the underwater panorama is no less interesting. If you would like to explore the underwater world, you can go snorkeling here at Pink Beach.
- Go underwater exploring with your snorkeling equipment or use the time to relax and read or simply enjoy the scenery around you.
This enchanting gem, also known as 'Cannon Bay', is tucked away in a charming hidden little fishing village in east Sumbawa. This stunning natural wonder is just a short boat ride away from Sape and is one of the special highlights on the island of Sumbawa.
- Be mesmerized as you enter the 3.62-hectare breathtaking landscape decorated with massive hexagonal basalt columns (columnar joints) that stretch out before you for as far as your eye can see. These majestic formations, created by the forces of nature, form a symphony of geometric perfection against the backdrop of the ocean. The rocks around this beach are formed from volcanic magma that has cooled and hardened with or without the crystallization process below and above the surface.
- We are sure that a sense of wonder and inner peace will accompany you as you walk through this natural wonder.
- Now it's time to return to the 'mainland' of Sumbawa, where you can spend the rest of the afternoon at your leisure.
- You will have dinner at your accommodation or nearby (not included).
- Overnight stay at Bima accommodation.
Day 10: Bima and Its Cultural Heritage
- After a not-too-late breakfast (included), you will start your tour today by exploring the beautiful Bima region.
- Today you have the opportunity to visit a little, but very special village of the Bima region. it is considered the centre of traditional local weaving and its residents are true masters in weaving enchanting textiles.
- In the late afternoon, you will return to your hotel to relax and reflect on the day's experiences.
- Lunch (not included) will be served en route.
- Dinner (not included) will be served at the hotel or nearby.
- Overnight stay at your hotel in Bima.
Day 11: Return Journey / Follow-up Program
- Enjoy a good, but early breakfast this morning.
- Now it's time to pack your bags and say goodbye.
- Your guide will pick you up from your accommodation and take you to the airport of Bima or to the harbor of Sape, depending on what your travel plans further provide.

Adventure holidays in Indonesia: For those seeking more than just beaches
Do you think of Indonesia only in terms of white beaches and palm trees? Then it's time to dive deeper. An Indonesia round trip east of the Wallace Line shows you a completely different face of this diverse country. Of course, you'll find dream beaches – for example on Lombok, the Moluccas, or Raja Ampat. But that's just the beginning. Off the beaten path, our adventure & cultural tours in Indonesia await you with a world full of highlights, featuring cultural diversity, exciting encounters, and unique nature.
Individually planned or in small private groups on our sailing tours, you'll experience a visit to Indonesia that is more than just a vacation – a cultural journey through Indonesia that takes you to the origins of this earth, to villages and places where stories of gods are still told. Pure Indonesia adventure vacation!
On active tour through Indonesia: Experience nature up close
Indonesia east of the Wallace Line is a true paradise for active travelers. Here you can climb volcanoes, hike through tropical forests, observe wild endemic animal species, and experience the incredible diversity of nature up close. Instead of the well-known Bromo volcano on Java - which is located west of the Wallace Line - our adventure tours in Eastern Indonesia take you to lesser-known but all the more impressive volcanoes, for example on Halmahera, Sulawesi, or Sumbawa.
The geological dynamism continues underwater as well: While snorkeling and diving around the Moluccas, Sulawesi, Raja Ampat, and the Lesser Sunda Islands, you'll encounter fascinating biodiversity – corals, rare fish, and sunken lava fields create scenery like from another world. This biological diversity is unique on Earth and makes every tour a real adventure. The region east of the Wallace Line is also called the Coral Triangle and invites you to unique active tours in Indonesia.
Between temples and rainforest on an adventure trip in Indonesia
A trip to Eastern Indonesia is also an encounter with spirituality. To be completely honest: In this region, unlike Bali, you won't encounter temples very often. The worship of gods takes place in a different way in the local Eastern Indonesian daily life. In remote villages, you can experience firsthand how deeply rooted the local cultural identity is. On your cultural journey through Eastern Indonesia, you'll see that rituals and myths are still passed down orally here and find their visible expression particularly at events and festivals.
On an adventure trip through Indonesia's jungle, along active volcanoes, through protected national parks, or through remote villages, every visit becomes a step into another world. Whether rainforest, beach, or rice field – you'll explore places where time seems to have stood still and become part of an environment where humans and nature still live in harmony.
Your active holiday in Eastern Indonesia is already waiting
You're ready to explore more, experience more intensively, and truly immerse yourself? Then this active vacation in Indonesia is exactly right for you. From the first flight to the last hotel night, everything is planned so you can make the most of your time. With us, you can expect:
