It was originally established as a marine studies outpost to bring together students, professors and researchers. In addition to a unique tropical setting, the resort also offers the scientifically inclined visitor interesting lectures with news about marine life by researchers stationed here, especially from the University of Oldenburg. Location and amenities:
Coral Eye Resort is located on Bangka Island at the northern tip of North Sulawesi, between Bunaken Marine National Park and Lembeh Strait. The Bangka Archipelago, consisting of several small islands, lies in the middle of the Coral Triangle, the global epicentre of marine biodiversity. There are no roads on the island, but lush forests, mangroves, coconut plantations, long white sand beaches and picturesque rocky outcrops.

The Coral Eye was originally launched in 2009 as a marine outpost to exchange ideas and develop marine projects. In 2013, with the development of the Dive Centre, an alternative was created to bring together people with a love of the underwater world and facilitate exchange.

The heart of the resort is the iconic main building, which also received a refreshing upgrade in early 2025 without losing its charm. The welcoming reception area and beautiful boutique have been retained, and a new central lounge area has been created, inviting guests to socialize and relax. The resort strives to intensify its collaboration with universities and marine biologists, further strengthening its commitment to marine conservation and education. Regular scientific lectures are presented here.

On the first floor above the common room are 7 unique superior rooms with air-conditioning and bathroom, with the option of a private terrace or access to the large common terrace. The terrace with Ocean View is the perfect place to relax or to work very focused on a project.

There are also 8 detached villas - 7 superior villas and one two-bedroom garden villa - in the garden of the complex, which add a touch of luxury while maintaining the original community spirit. Here you can enjoy privacy and proximity to the white sandy beach. All villas are equipped with air conditioning, minibar, open air bathrooms and a cosy outdoor area. New since 2025 are 4 Luxury Beachfront Pool Villas, which, in addition to the features mentioned above, also have a private 4 m x 4 m swimming pool and are located directly on the beach.

Electricity is available 24 hours a day at the resort and free Wi-Fi in all rooms. A spa area in the jungle garden pampers holidaymakers with various massages and treatments as well as natural products. As part of the newly built outside area in 2025, the Coral Eye Resort is also equipped with a 26 m swimming pool now, in which a 2 m deep diving pool is integrated. The resort also has a desalinator, that provides fresh, clean water around the clock.

Restaurant:
In 2024/2025, the existing restaurant concept was reconsidered and redesigned. As a result, a new building will be opened in August 2025, now located outside the bungalow area, featuring a more individually designed restaurant with views of the sea as well as an adjoining lounge and bar. Especially at dusk, it offers an atmospheric view of the pool, allowing guests to end their evening with cocktails, beer, or wine in a cozy-romantic atmosphere.

A stay at Coral Eye includes full board, consisting of breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, as well as tea, coffee, fruit, and cookies available throughout the day. Freshly baked bread, croissants, homemade jams, and house-baked muffinscomplete the offering. The kitchen team always strives to accommodate dietary preferences or special requirements. The resort's own restaurant also places emphasis on quality and simplicity. Homemade seasonal dishes are combined with the exotic cuisine of Indonesia and – thanks to the Italian resort management – Mediterranean recipes.

Diving:
The dive centre of the Coral Eye Resort is located directly on the beach and is equipped with a terrace and a camera room. Small groups with a maximum of 4 divers per guide ensure the highest level of individual service. All local guides are certified divemasters and have extensive experience diving around the Bangka archipelago. Diving courses can be completed in the 2 m deep diving pool.

There are 2 boat dives in the morning, adapted to the guests' needs and weather conditions. On board is everything divers need for a successful diving experience, including safety equipment. An afternoon dive is organised on request by boat or at the house reef. Night dives take place in the evening around 6pm at the house reef. Full day trips to the Lembeh Strait or Bunaken Marine National Park are organised by the dive team on request.

The Coral Triangle is known for its special underwater biodiversity. Diving in the region is possible all year round, but the best time to dive is from April to November. More than 30 world-class dive sites are located 5 to 40 minutes by boat from the resort. They range from densely populated volcanic peaks to pristine coral reef slopes, sandy slopes, unique mangrove forests and steep rock faces.

Divers enjoy black volcanic sand, hard corals with an extremely high biodiversity and steep walls covered with soft corals, among other things. They can discover pygmy seahorses, leaf fish, frogfish, white and black tip reef sharks, nudibranchs and dugongs.
