Location & equipment

Moro Ma'Doto Resort: Paradise holiday on the edge of the Pacific; Experience the fascinating world of the Moluccas, experience the spice island of Morotai with its breathtaking scenery.

Location and amenities:
Secluded from the outside world, perched on a hill and nestled between rainforest and coconut groves, you will find the elegant Moro Ma'Doto Resort in the east of the spice island of Morotai. This very private resort gem offers a sophisticated ambience in undeveloped Indonesia east of the Wallace Line, on the edge of the Pacific Ocean ... at the other end of the world. The sprawling 62-hectare resort leaves plenty of open space and privacy and also boasts lots of greenery as well as an almost 2 km long white sandy beach, ideal for long walks and for fans of sunrises :-) The Moro Ma'Doto is owner-managed and is under German-Indonesian management, which - in advance through us or then on site - is happy to take up individual wishes regarding diving, surfing or fishing. Moro Ma'Doto is 48 km from the nearest airport, Leo Wattimena/Pitu Airport, which is about 1 hour's drive.

The Moro Ma'Doto has 4 spacious villas and 1 enchanting Hill Top Suite, all with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. Carefully selected natural materials, combining old and new, give the interior a unique and stylish character. For example, woven pandanus fibres are used as natural carpets or traditionally handcrafted fish traps as elegant lampshades. Each villa, also called a Gapoa, has a king-size or double bed, a sofa (Villa 1, 2 & 4) or a sun lounger (Villa 3), as well as air conditioning and a ceiling fan.

GAPOA 1 & Gapoa 2
Equipped for the best possible guest comfort, the two 77 m2 villas have king-size or twin beds, a comfortable sofa bed, air conditioning and a high ceiling fan. In addition, each Gapoa has a swing with canopy to relax and enjoy the sea breeze. The open-air bathroom offers a rain shower and a freestanding bathtub with spectacular views of the Pacific. Between Gapoa 1 and Gapoa 2 is a 92 m2 common living area with a large infinity pool, sofa corner, kitchen and dining area.

GAPOA 3
Our 77 m2 villa is equipped with king size/ twin bed, a comfortable sun lounger, air conditioning and high ceiling fans. This Gapoa also has a swing with canopy from which a relaxing view of the sea can be enjoyed. The open-air bathroom offers a rain shower and a freestanding bathtub with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. Located next to Gapoa 4, the infinity pool in between is available for guests of both villas to share. A booking combination of Gapoa 3 & 4 is particularly recommended for holidaymakers who are travelling together with friends or older children, for example. This combination offers enough space for the needs of each individual guest.

GAPOA 4
Our 48 m2 villa is equipped with king size/ twin beds, air conditioning and relaxing sofa. The open-air bathroom is equipped with a private rain shower. There is a shared infinity pool between Gapoa 3 and Gapoa 4, which guests of both villas can use together. This is particularly convenient for holidaymakers arriving together with friends or even older children, with plenty of space for each guest's needs.

HILLTOP SUITE
Our 54 m2 suite is located on the top of the hill, at Moro Point. Surrounded by palm trees, it offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. The suite is equipped with a king size bed, air conditioning, ceiling fan and a relaxing sofa chair. The private courtyard features a bamboo shower with an adjoining toilet. The Hilltop Suite is in an exposed location, with the restaurant and beach both a 5-minute walk away.

The owners' dream is to introduce their guests to a completely new holiday destination. Their philosophy is to integrate the local community into all resort activities, thus promoting environmental awareness and ownership. Local professionals have been and will be encouraged to participate in the construction and maintenance of all structures in a vernacular context, and to remain associated with the resort as employees or service providers. Traditional materials such as wood, bamboo, natural fibres and palm fronds for roofing are sourced locally and resource-efficiently, and building sites are carefully selected not only to maximise views but also to match the gentle contours of the landscape. The resort also runs its own permaculture farm, providing the resort kitchen with fresh fruit and vegetables on a daily basis.

Occupancy: max. 2-3 persons

Restaurant:
Both continental and local breakfast is served in the morning. The hotel restaurant also focuses on local Indonesian and Western cuisine. Vegetarian, vegan and halal dishes are available on request..

Diving, Surfing, Fishing:
At Moro Ma'Doto Resort, divers also get their money's worth, because around Morotai there are wonderful diving areas that can be accessed from the resort. Sea turtles, reef sharks, countless colourful small fish species as well as the species of the 'walking shark', which was only discovered in 2013, framed by beautiful colourful corals as well as a considerable number of wrecks contribute to a unique underwater scenery. However, if you intend to dive, the resort asks that you book in advance so that arrangements can be made. The resort does NOT have its own dive centre.

For surfing enthusiasts, Morotai offers great surfing opportunities, especially during the European winter months between November and March/April, also right outside the 'resort door'. Trips to the various surf locations outside the resort can also be organised. Moro Ma'Doto Resort also offers interesting options for fishing enthusiasts. If desired, a boat with its own crew and fishing equipment can be provided to navigate to the best fishing spots on the island. Yellowfin tuna, marlin, sailfish/fanfish, mackerel, wahoo, mahi-mahi/dolphinfish and many other species are at home in the local waters.
