Location and amenities:
The Papua Explorers Eco Resort is situated on Gam Island, very central in Raja Ampat. It is located directly at the famous Dampier Strait with the best dive sites in the region. With the resort's own transfer boats, the journey from Sorong takes only two to three hours - depending on wind and waves.
The resort is under international management. All buildings are built in traditional Papuan style from local, natural materials: the roofs from nipa leaves, the walls from bobo leaves and the floor from tropical ironwood. Thanks to their materials, they blend in perfectly with the exotic surroundings.
The 15 spacious water bungalows are located directly above the crystal clear water and offer direct access to the sea thanks to a wooden staircase. Inside, visitors do not have to do without modern comforts. All bungalows are equipped with a bathroom, mosquito net, ceiling fan, a cosy sitting area and a hammock on the veranda. Wooden statues and local decorative items make the holiday feeling perfect. Eco-friendly shower gel and soap are also available. The resort has 12 Deluxe Water Bungalows of 72 m², 2 Superior Water Bungalows of 55 m² and 1 large Family Villa with 2 separate bedrooms and bathrooms.
Electricity is available 24 hours a day at the resort, as is Wi-Fi in the common area. Those who prefer faster internet should bring a local SIM card, which - depending on the weather - allows 4-G reception. Professional massages can be booked at the resort's own spa.
Occupancy: max. 3 persons
Restaurant:
The open restaurant is also located above the water and - like the bungalows - is built in traditional style. Thanks to its round shape, guests can see both sunrises and sunsets from here.
Local and international dishes are served three times a day. The kitchen staff is always eager to fulfil guests' special requests. A cosy sitting area with numerous fish books is suitable for sharing with other guests.
Diving:
The Papua Explorers Eco Resort has a 5-star PADI dive centre. Here, five multinational dive instructors (including German-speaking), eleven Indonesian dive guides and well-trained and experienced boat captains and boat crew members take care of the guests.
Three boat dives are offered daily, as well as unlimited house reef dives. The total of nine boats meet international safety standards and are equipped for any emergencies that may arise. All staff are regularly trained for emergencies. Nitrox is available free of charge for all Nitrox certified divers.
Thanks to its direct location on the Dampier Strait, Raja Ampat's most famous dive sites are within easy reach of the resort. Many of them can be reached within 10 to 15 minutes. Due to the strong currents, the water is particularly rich in nutrients and attracts numerous creatures. Divers can enjoy an incredible variety of fish and corals, and macro lovers will also get their money's worth.
The province of Raja Ampat covers more than 40,000 km² of land and sea and, together with Cendrawasih Bay, forms Indonesia's largest marine national park. The island chain consists of over 1,500 small islands with thousands of different species above and below water - some of them even endemic
